ASPA 2023 Keynote Announcement

We are pleased to announce the keynote speakers for the upcoming ASPA 2023 Conference. The conference will be held in Wellington, New Zealand on 27-28 November 2023.

Day 1 – Monday, 27 November

  • Dr Anna Rolleston (Ngati Ranginui, Ngai Te Rangi, Ngati Pukenga) is the Managing Director of Manawaora/The Centre for Health, New Zealand. She originally trained in sport and exercise science, with a PhD in medicine, and is now a leading voice in healthcare in Aotearoa New Zealand advocating for new ways of effectively working together with communities to optimise their health outcomes. Her keynote address is titled “Is it co-design or is it not co-design: That is the question.”
  • Professor Amy Ha is a Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.  Her research interests include application of information technology in physical education and sports, family-based physical activity, fundamental movement skills, physical literacy, and teachers’ professional development. Her keynote address is titled “Creating better policies and environments for children’s physical activity by Working Together with stakeholders across disciplines and roles.”

Day 2 – Tuesday, 28 November

  • Professor Tony Okely is a Professor of Public Health at the University of Wollongong, Australia. His research focuses on movement behaviours in children, with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries. His keynote address is titled “The SUNRISE International Study: an example of a large-scale collaboration in movement behaviour research.”
  • Dame Professor Farah Rangikoepa Palmer (Ngāti Maniapoto, Waikato) is a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her services to sport, particularly rugby, and Professor at Massey University, New Zealand. Her research focuses on women in sport, Māori women’s leadership experiences, and the incorporation of Māori values and tikanga in organisational contexts. Her keynote address is titled “Nāu te rourou, nāku te rourou, ka ora te iwi” (With your contribution, and my contribution, the people will thrive).”
