Promotion of physical activity through policies and environments is key to sustainably increase physical activity at the population level. This strategy closely aligns with the key objectives of the World Health Organisation’s Global Action Plan on Physical Activity 2018-2030. Implementing urban planning and transport policies, along with development of built environments that support physical activity also brings co-benefits, such as community cohesion, boost of local economies, and reduced carbon emissions through the uptake of active travel.

The primary goal of this Special Interest Group is to establish a platform in the Asia-Pacific region that enables discussions and collaborations across academia, policymakers and practitioners to advance research and advocacy works that focus on promoting physical activity through policies and environments. Additionally, it will offer opportunities for capacity building, networking, knowledge sharing via newsletters and webinars, and public engagement through social media.
