ASPA 2022 Physical Literacy SIG Session

Physical Literacy in the Asia Pacific

Monday 28th November 1400 – 1500 hours

Join the Physical Literacy SIG session to hear from two leaders in the Asia Pacific region on how physical literacy is being operationally defined in Chinese culture, the establishment of the Chinese Physical Literacy Association (CPLA), and how the concept of physical literacy is being enacted across the Pacific Island Nation States and the Oceanic Region more broadly.

Speakers:

  • Professor Raymond Sum is currently the Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies) of the Faculty of Education and an Associate Professor in the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Raymond is the Founding President of the Chinese Physical Literacy Association (CPLA) and the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong China (PFAHK). Raymond is also a Committee Member of Advocacy and Collaboration, and Ambassador of the International Physical Literacy Association (IPLA), and a Member of the Leadership Committee of the Physical Literacy Special Interest Group (PL SIG) of the Asia-Pacific Society for Physical Activity (ASPA). Raymond leads the Sports and Society Research Group, which focuses on examining physical literacy, its application to different populations, operationalizing physical literacy and assessment of the interventions of physical literacy on PE teachers’ professional development and students learning outcomes.
  • Jackie Lauff is a sport and development practitioner who has worked in various roles within local, national, and international sport organisations in Australia, Fiji, Germany and China. Jackie has an undergraduate degree in Occupational Therapy, a Master of International and Community Development from Deakin University and a Master of Adapted Physical Activity with the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. She leads a small NGO that specialises in sport for development, and she is a strong advocate in the Pacific region across sport policy, research, and social change. Jackie is a member of the Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC) International Relations Commission, the Commonwealth Secretariat’s Open-Ended Working Group on Sport and the SDGs, and the Pacific Regional Sports Taskforce. Currently, Jackie is CEO of Sport Matters and is based in Sydney.
